The on-going commodity and geographical diversification strategy of our group has resulted in our Diesel Power Mining Services Division recently being awarded a new hard-rock open pit mining contract with DMC, a subsidiary of Exxaro, at DMC’s Mayoko iron ore mine in the Republic of Congo.  The scope of this initial 2-year mining contract, which first commenced towards the end of February 2013, includes a small portion of quarrying for aggregates and the establishment and operation of a conventional hard-rock open pit mine. 

 

A highly qualified management, mining and technical team with extensive experience in Africa has been selected for this project to manage and execute the Mayoko contract. Buildmax also established Diesel Power Congo, a new group subsidiary company in Congo, to execute the initial mining contract and also to explore any further opportunities with Exxaro at the long-term Mayoko iron ore project, as well as elsewhere in Congo.

 

DMC Mayoko Iron Ore Mine is situated in the North West of the Republic of the Congo about 460km North east from Pointe Noire. In full operation Diesel Power Congo will employ over 200 Congolese and 15 Expats. During the first couple of months Diesel Power has established a good working relationship with the local communities and the local leaders. On-going training and development of the local work force remains a key focus point for Diesel Power Congo ensuring continues growth of the surrounding communities and its people.

 

Diesel Power Congo’s contract include following services,

 

• Deforesting and topsoil removal

• Drilling and blasting

• Loading and Hauling of waste and ore

• Construction of roads and mining infrastructure

• Crushing and Screening of aggregates

• Dewatering and other related ancillary mining services

 

The logistical requirements remain to be a constant challenge working in such a remote area where basically no former mining activity has ever been carried out before. Even in these tough conditions Diesel Power Congo is consistently growing stronger and has reached great successes in the process.
